FAA Clears Boeing’s MAX 9 to Resume Flying. Here’s the Bad News.

The Federal Aviation Administration has, effectively, ungrounded the 737 MAX 9 jet that it grounded on Jan. 6 after an emergency door plug blew out in midair during an Alaska Air Group flight. The FAA said on Wednesday that 737 MAX 9 planes that complete an enhanced inspection process, confirming compliance with the original design, can return to service. “We will not agree to any request from Boeing for an expansion in production or approve additional production lines for the 737 MAX until we are satisfied that the quality control issues uncovered during this process are resolved,” the agency said.
